Grub Noodle Bar

I had read several good reviews of Grub Noodle Bar on the web, so I had to try it myself! Reserved a table on Chope, thinking that it would be crowded on a Friday night, but as it turned out, the place was rather quiet for a Friday night and no reservation was required.

Of course, we had to try their signature dish: the beef noodles. You could choose between brisket, rump or chuck eye roll. We were initially apprehensive about the "chuck eye roll" as the name to us non-connoisseurs sounded like dodgy parts (they were out of rump that day), though the waitress indicated was actually somewhere along the back of the cow's neck. We needn't have worried.

Baby cuttlefish to start- crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, a far cry from rubbery tasting calamari you get at some places.
Our choice: Dry beef noodles with chuck eye roll.
And washed down with very fizzy root beer.
Verdict: The star of the dish was most certainly the cut of the beef, which was oh-so-tender without having any tendons or obvious fatty streaks. The broth was also flavourful, and I didn't detect any taste of MSG. The beef balls were a little on the dry side, but I think there's what you get when you have real minced beef balls (as opposed to the flour-y type you typically get with traditional beef ball noodles).

To put it colloquially, it's like "atas hock lam", but still value for money considering the quality of the food and the restaurant setting.
